I know some of my friends aren’t necessarily into meditation. I’m aware that not everyone’s spiritual or personal practices are similar to mine. And I’m well aware of my “urban fairness”, but imma tell you, meditation is how I reclaim my energy and my mental power.
Sometimes I spiral out too much. I allow the world to pull me in thousands of directions to the point that I get very anxious and nervous. My work is in education, so my energy is constantly being pulled at by little hearts, bureaucratic policies, parent drama, and this remote learning climate.
What I focus on takes me from my center. When I fully engage with the outside world, I am concentrating at such a high degree that I unknowingly spiral out from my center. And I don’t know about you, but being off my personal center can easily get me out of tune with my power source if I don’t do regular maintenance on my energy.
As much as we think being on computers/phone is a distraction it also is an energetic exchange. You are giving it focus, you are processing information, and often reacting to the content you engage with. It’s so much information for a body to process.
“So much information for a body to process”
I want to share my favorite meditation for self-regulation. I do this when I notice I have spiraled out too far, when I’m sooo entrenched with the world that I’m unnecessarily tense or anxious.
💆🏾♀️Breathe. Find a comfortable breathing pace for yourself, a pace that allows you to softly x fully expand your lungs.
💆🏾♀️Imagine yourself in a dark space, surrounded by your “life load”, all of the people, tasks, and conversations that are still ringing in your head.
💆🏾♀️Continue to breathe as you process all of your life load. Even allow your brain to complain and create more to do lists. Breathe and allow your life load to sit in that dark space with you.
💆🏾♀️Every time you want to stop your meditation, just breathe some more. Honor that you have a full life, yet you don’t have to do a damn thing at this exact moment because you are breathing.
💆🏾♀️Now breathe and with your mind, pull all of the energy and focus you gave to your life load into your body. Like a vacuum with no mercy, draw all the energy back into yourself.
💆🏾♀️ Take back the energy from each 💭 on
your to do lists, your emails, sista/brotha, boss, or whatever you continue to pull the energy into you. This is recollecting yourself and calling your energy back.
💆🏾♀️Breathe and continue to collect your energy. Keep drawing your energy back into your body, and keep breathing.
It’s subtle, but it helps me. I give a lot to my community and my loved ones. I get lost in giving to the point that I spiral out and become disconnected to myself. The quality of my giving even gets tainted if I don’t call my energy back regularly.
Nobody needs all of you except for you 💋
